Two programmes are available in clinical nutrition:

Student with a high school diploma or non-science degree wishing to futher their education with a certification course in clinical nutrition. A 12 week course meeting once a week or two hours in either the evening or afternoon. The fee is SG$1,200 with an instalment plan of three payments to be paid within the first six weeks. The course is held at Concordia College. Those students wishing to get a degree in nutrition or life sciences may enroll and have to take undergraduate courses with the American Institute. These will be non matriculating courses and one will be eligible to transfer into degree programmes here.

This course includes the following:

1. Basic metabolic pathways in metabolism.
   
2. The energy cycle.
   
3. Digestion.
   
4. Protein - amino acid, protein in food, health effects, benefits and recommended intakes of protein, how to culculate protein intake.
   
5. Carbohydrates - complex CHO's, digestion, health effects of CHO's and recommended intakes.
   
6. Lipids - triglycerides, phospholipids and sterols, digestion, lipids in the body, health effects and daily recommended intakes.
   
7. Vitamins - fat soluble Vt. A, D, K, E, daily recommended intakes, toxicity levels, digestion and absorption.
   
8. Vitamins - Water soluble B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Pathathenic acid, folate, recommended daily intakes, digestion and absorption.
   
9. Minerals - potassium, chloride, Clacium, Magnesium, Sulfer.
   
10. Trace minerals - zinc, maganese, chromium, selenium, copper, Iodine, Boron, Iron, digestion and absorption, recommended daily intakes, toxicity levels.
    
11. An over view of environmental and sports nutrition.
    
12. Nutrition and disease in included.

Student with a degree or basic undergraduate biology/microbiology/chemistry in the sciences; including biology/chemistry may take a 12 week non-degree certification programme in clinical nutrition for a 12 week course meeting two hours per week and later enroll in an academic certification programme with International and American Association of Clinical Nutritionists, web site at www.IAACN.com (The fee is from USD45 to USD400). This course includes the above mentioned issues and includes clinical nutrition and disease, environmental and sports nutrition and the clinical tests in the profession to determine deficiencies and toxicity level. The fee for only the 12 weeks course in SG$2,500 and may be paid in three installments over six weeks.

6. Coronary heart disease
7. Calculations for diet therapy
8. Environmental Nutrition
9. Sports Nutrition

The fee is SG$1,200 and is payable in three installments.
